Broad prospects for cooperation in the Asian solar industry

Release time: 2019-01-10
A few days ago, the ninth "Asian Solar Forum" co-organized by the National Energy Administration and the Asian Development Bank was held in Beijing. China Economic Times reporter learned from the National Energy Administration website that the theme of this forum is "Solar Industry Cooperation", which aims to further promote regional cooperation in the Asian solar industry, enhance industrial competitiveness, and expand the widespread use of solar energy. Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, Director of the National Energy Administration, Noor Bakery, and President of the Asian Development Bank, Takehiko Nakao, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Noor Bekley said that Asia is the fastest growing region in the world and occupies the largest share of global new energy demand. This is a severe challenge for the region and a good opportunity to achieve energy transition. At present, Asia has become the largest region in the world for photovoltaic manufacturing and application. In the past 3 years, Asia ’s new installed photovoltaic power generation accounts for more than 50% of the world ’s total, polysilicon output accounts for about 65% of the world, photovoltaic cell output accounts for 95% of the world, photovoltaic module output accounts for 92% of the world, Asia can fully The field forms an international regional competitive advantage. Asian countries should strengthen regional cooperation, jointly promote the development of clean energy such as solar energy, seize the opportunity of a new round of global energy transformation, realize the leapfrog development of the region's energy transformation, and build clean energy into an important new force for regional economic development.

Noor Bekley emphasized that China is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with Asian countries in the field of solar energy. In the promotion of the “Belt and Road” strategy, China will take the construction of energy infrastructure as a key content, and give full play to the advantages of solar energy resources in the region. We must cooperate in the following three aspects:

The first is to share the development experience of the solar energy industry and expand the diversified application market. In particular, it is necessary to expedite the solution of the electricity consumption problem of the unpowered population in the region.

The second is to promote cooperation in the photovoltaic manufacturing industry, optimize the industrial layout, and establish photovoltaic manufacturing industrial systems in more regions.

Third, China will continue to cooperate with the Asian Development Bank to innovate investment and financing models that support the development of the photovoltaic industry and realize the integrated development of finance and industry.

In his speech, Takeo Nakao explained the prominent role of green finance in the development of clean energy. He suggested that Asian countries act in concert on policies and plans, strengthen cooperation in the solar energy industry in Asia, expand various types of solar application markets, and accelerate solar technology progress and cost reduction. "The Asian Development Bank will increase investment in green energy such as solar energy to provide more financial support for the development of the solar industry in Asia."
